System Engineer / Program Manager

THE COMPANY

We are SpaceRyde; building Canada’s first rocket to launch small satellites! THe ROLE

You will be responsible for guiding and managing the development of the launch system through its entire product lifecycle, from concept to fabrication, test and flight readiness. This position requires a proactive approach to identify and solve problems related to the technical design and the process through which it is implemented. You will work closely with a multi-disciplinary engineering team and be expected to provide status updates on performance, design changes, schedule, and timeline risk mitigation. A successful candidate will be a self-starter, uplift their teammates and be passionate about the space industry. You will be challenged daily and will need to adapt quickly to achieve tight project deadlines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Handling the day-to-day operations of the office, kitchen, and lab.

  • Order, organize and distribute office supplies and maintain inventory.

  • Establish office procedures and policies, and ensure compliance.

  • Receive and distribute incoming mails and parcels to different teams.

  • Prepare financial files and invoices for bookkeeping purposes.

  • File physical and electronic copies of invoices and other documents.

  • Pick up and drop off parts from local suppliers.

  • Arrange accommodation, travel and equipment for off-site work.

  • Assist in developing and coordinating company events to boost team morale.

  • Provide support for various teams as necessary, to meet our goals.

  • Perform early project scoping, establishing and communicating new project requirements to relevant engineers.
  • Create and maintain system-level design schematics, performance budgets and interface control documents.  
  • Lead system level trades and design reviews across the entire launch system.
  • Own project timelines and action plans, ensuring schedule does not slip.
  • Act as a focal point for all launch system related issues and proactively attack any design or manufacturing challenges on the spot.
  • Coordinate and execute test/launch readiness and post test/launch data reviews.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 4+ years of focused, hands on experience in a project management or execution role.
  • Basic understanding of first principles related to space vehicle design and operation.
  • Systems Engineering best practices. Be able to adapt processes to meet the needs of the team.
  • Experience with project management tools and software.
  • Programming knowledge in Python or other languages.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication and assembly methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and execute tasks under pressure in an Agile development environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and execute tasks under pressure in an Agile development environment while working with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work in-person. This position is not remote.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a top university.

  • 1+ year experience of general administrative work.

  • Valid G driver’s license.

  • Exceptional ability to problem-solve effectively while maintaining strong attention to details.

  • Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills (or Google’s GSuite).

  • Excellent communicator; comfortable liaising with internal and external parties.

  • Ability to adapt to dynamic schedules, and a focus on efficiency without sacrificing quality.

Bonus skills, knowledge, and qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management or an equivalent technical field.
  • Knowledge of production management tools, and quality control processes.
  • Experience with CAD.
  • Flight hardware experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a top university.

  • 1+ year experience of general administrative work.

  • Valid G driver’s license.

  • Exceptional ability to problem-solve effectively while maintaining strong attention to details.

  • Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills (or Google’s GSuite).

  • Excellent communicator; comfortable liaising with internal and external parties.
