Mechanical Engineer - Ground Launch Systems

The Company

We are SpaceRyde; building Canada’s first rocket to launch small satellites! Pioneering an industry is not an easy task, but with our combination of experienced founders, high-profile investors and bright team, we have achieved many firsts. We have doubled our staff every year, and will reach space in 2022; so come join us if you’d like to work on the edge of innovation and creativity.

The Role

You will be responsible for launch hardware development from initial conceptual design through to detailed design, analysis, and manufacturing. You will have the opportunity to design a variety of welded structures, large-scale mechanisms, and electromechanical/hydraulic actuation systems. These systems are vital to the success of each rocket launch and the overall mission at SpaceRyde. You will be challenged daily and will need to adapt quickly to achieve tight project deadlines.

  • Perform detailed design and analysis of mechanisms, actuation systems, fluid systems, and large structures.
  • Work closely with fellow mechanical engineers to develop loading requirements and with manufacturing engineers/external vendors to drive the manufacturing process.
  • Collaborate with engineers designing SpaceRyde launch vehicles (Flying Spider and Ryder rocket) to ensure seamless integration between the launch hardware and vehicles.

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 2+ years of industrial experience with mechanical/electromechanical design, analysis, and hands-on assembly.
