Composite Technician

The Company

The Role

As a Composite Technician at SpaceRyde you will be involved in the manufacturing of the various composite components of the Ryder rocket. This role requires a wide knowledge of composite manufacturing materials and techniques, and willingness to explore revolutionary/creative production methods for low-cost manufacturing. You will be challenged daily and will need to adapt quickly to achieve tight project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handling the day-to-day operations of the office, kitchen, and lab.

  • Order, organize and distribute office supplies and maintain inventory.

  • Establish office procedures and policies, and ensure compliance.

  • Receive and distribute incoming mails and parcels to different teams.

  • Prepare financial files and invoices for bookkeeping purposes.

  • File physical and electronic copies of invoices and other documents.

  • Pick up and drop off parts from local suppliers.

  • Arrange accommodation, travel and equipment for off-site work.

  • Assist in developing and coordinating company events to boost team morale.

  • Provide support for various teams as necessary, to meet our goals.

  • Manufacturing of composite rocket components, including but not limited to the rocket body structure, propulsion systems, fairings and avionics bays.
  • Trimming, fitting and joining of composite components.
  • Assembly of metallic components into carbon composite structures.
  • Vacuum bagging, curing and processing in out-of-autoclave techniques.
  • Integration of mechanical hardware into composite structures.
  • Assist with testing campaign planning and execution.
  • Work independently on projects using SOPs and work plans, utilize knowledge of best practices during production.
  • Compile and maintain detailed documentation, ensuring all modifications, deviations and updates are accurately tracked during initial phases of product development.
  • Develop and maintain QA procedures and policies to ensure highest quality of production parts.

Requirements

  • 2+ years composite experience (aerospace industry experience preferred).
  • Wet layup, prepreg and resin infusion manufacturing knowledge.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools, particularly for use with composite fabrication
  • Ability to self-motivate, work independently, and proactively ask questions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in-person. This position is not remote.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a top university.

  • 1+ year experience of general administrative work.

  • Valid G driver’s license.

  • Exceptional ability to problem-solve effectively while maintaining strong attention to details.

  • Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills (or Google’s GSuite).

  • Excellent communicator; comfortable liaising with internal and external parties.

  • Ability to adapt to dynamic schedules, and a focus on efficiency without sacrificing quality.

BONUS SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with composite repair.
  • Experience with manufacturing of sandwich panels.
  • Experience with composite mold design and production.
  • Metalworking and woodworking experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a top university.

  • 1+ year experience of general administrative work.

  • Valid G driver’s license.

  • Exceptional ability to problem-solve effectively while maintaining strong attention to details.

  • Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills (or Google’s GSuite).

  • Excellent communicator; comfortable liaising with internal and external parties.
