Avionics Engineering Technician

The Company

The Role

As a member of the avionics team, you will be responsible for building, servicing, repairing and modifying spacecraft electronic systems and components. You will play a critical role and bring a high standard of workmanship to help ensure conformity to standards and optimal performance of all flight hardware. You will be challenged daily and will need to adapt quickly to achieve tight project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handling the day-to-day operations of the office, kitchen, and lab.

  • Order, organize and distribute office supplies and maintain inventory.

  • Establish office procedures and policies, and ensure compliance.

  • Receive and distribute incoming mails and parcels to different teams.

  • Prepare financial files and invoices for bookkeeping purposes.

  • File physical and electronic copies of invoices and other documents.

  • Pick up and drop off parts from local suppliers.

  • Arrange accommodation, travel and equipment for off-site work.

  • Assist in developing and coordinating company events to boost team morale.

  • Provide support for various teams as necessary, to meet our goals.

  • Fabricate, route and troubleshoot wire harnesses according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Fabricate, assemble, repair, modify, operate and troubleshoot electrical modules and components.
  • Install avionics components, wiring harness and sensors inside the rocket.
  • Perform electrical continuity checks, operational tests, and acceptance test procedures according to engineering and manufacturer’s instructions on avionics components.
  • Document work progress, certifications, completion and testing on various production documents per ISO standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • Certification in IPC/WHMA-A-620D and/or IPC J-STD-001.
  • 3+ years experience as a technician in a production environment working with flight hardware.
  • Experience using electronics equipment (e.g. power supplies, oscilloscopes, etc.).
  • Ability to read schematics, harness wiring diagrams, layout drawings, mechanical drawings, circuit layouts, and parts lists.
  • Experience manufacturing wire harnesses in commercial, automotive, or aerospace industries.
  • Experience soldering and assembling PCBs with surface mount components.
  • Experience working in a clean room.
  • Ability to self-motivate, work independently, and proactively ask questions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in-person. This position is not remote.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a top university.

  • 1+ year experience of general administrative work.

  • Valid G driver’s license.

  • Exceptional ability to problem-solve effectively while maintaining strong attention to details.

  • Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills (or Google’s GSuite).

  • Excellent communicator; comfortable liaising with internal and external parties.

  • Ability to adapt to dynamic schedules, and a focus on efficiency without sacrificing quality.

BONUS SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma in avionics technician or an equivalent program.
  • Experience with designing wiring harnesses.
  • Hands-on experience with debugging electronics using multimeters, logic analyzers, or oscilloscopes.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a top university.

  • 1+ year experience of general administrative work.

  • Valid G driver’s license.

  • Exceptional ability to problem-solve effectively while maintaining strong attention to details.

  • Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills (or Google’s GSuite).

  • Excellent communicator; comfortable liaising with internal and external parties.

  • Ability to adapt to dynamic schedules, and a focus on efficiency without sacrificing quality.
